WHAT IS AN IGNITION INTERLOCK?

LifeSafer FC100 An Ignition Interlock is a breath analyzer which is wired into the vehicle's ignition. It prevents the driver from starting his or her car if he or she has had too much to drink.

The ignition interlock device is about the size of a cellular telephone. It is simple to use and can be installed in most vehicles.

The LifeSafer FC 100™, is a hand held device that attaches a breath-alcohol analyzer to a vehicle's ignition system. The vehicle operator must complete a breath test, measuring a BrAC (breath alcohol concentration) below a preset limit before the vehicle can be started. The device was designed to meet or exceed technical guidelines for Interlock Devices published April 7, 1992, by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

WILL THE BREATHALYZER TURN OFF MY ENGINE?

Absolutely not. The only thing that the interlock device can do is sound your horn and/or prevent the engine from starting. It will never turn off the engine. If you fail or abort 5 consecutive tests, or if you do not deliver a test when required, the unit will sound your horn. If you allow the horn to sound for 4 minutes then you will get a violation that must be reported to the court, or drivers' license agency.

WHAT DOES AN IGNITION INTERLOCK COST?

The cost for an ignition interlock is only about $2.00 per day. There are several companies that offer convenient service statewide. Some offer affordable payment plans, so "High Cost" is not an excuse to avoid getting an ignition interlock!
